Greetings everyone! Has anyone fitted a new 12l tank to one of the older Bobbers? Is it a straight swap or is there a bit of furtling to do? Thanks for any help folks.

I've been informed by my local dealer that it's a straight swap.......I hope you have deep pockets though, as the tank isn't cheap :)
Thanks for the response Ry, that sounds like good news to me. I have emailed my local dealership about it but have had no reply as yet. I managed to pick one up off ebay for loads cheaper than Triumph would charge and am going to get it resprayed to Morello like my original one. Good job I've got a pal who'll do it for mates rates eh?

So a quick update on this. Here's the response from my local Triumph dealer:

Triumph have come back to me and they say the bigger tank will fit, the fuel pump etc are the same between both sizes of tanks. The only difference that would need to be ordered and swapped is the fuel level sender that is different between the two tank sizes.

A fuel level sender would be ÂŁ134.77
The bigger tank would be ÂŁ1140.00 for a jet black one
Fuel pump seal would be ÂŁ23.65
Fitting would an hour at ÂŁ120.00

Cheers!

Hi Chaps,
I've (nearly) successfully swapped my 9l tank for the newer 12l tank. Fuel pump works fine and the bike starts as it should. The newer fuel sender (from a scrambler, part number T2403627 as advised by Triumph) has been fitted I'm told (not by Triumph). However the fuel gauge reads 36 miles to go with a brimmed tank and sits there for a while. I was hoping that the bike was learning this new set up but after 20 odd miles from a brimmed tank the fuel light comes on. My question to you, my esteemed friends and partners in looniness is - can the sender be wired backward? Can it be installed upside down? Too much of a coincidence for this old IT engineer that 30 miles! ;-)

Thanks for the bump mate, if that's what it is!
My mechanic man has removed everything from the tank again and can see nothing wrong. You can see the sender through the filler hole if you get it in the right light and we dropped a bit of wire with a hook on the end down and moved it up and down in situ with the bike ignition on. Nothing happens with the display on the clock. I think there's one of two things it can be. I've either got the wrong sender off ebay, or the bike hasn't had time to learn it's got a new one yet. I'm going to run the bike through a tank of fuel and see if anything happens, but I think I got the wrong sender.

Here's weird, if you go to the link below you will see the part number that Triumph recommend for the new Bobber tank. It fits four models. Then click on the part diagram links to the left. You'll see that the sender for the Speedmaster has a kind of z shape to the rod which has the float unit on the end. This, I think, is the one I got. Click on the others though and you'll see that the rod is straight - but they all have the same part number!

Thanks for any input chaps!
