So you're contemplating a sprung seat project, not sure on what to do about hinging the saddle. While you're procrastinating over the purchase of a dedicated mount or billet item, here's a quick mod you can undertake to convert your original seat post into a floater. Placement of the hardware in image-2 should elude as to what we're going to do here.



  • First off, remove that 10,0mm centre bolt and stow it away as a spare. I blanked the hole with a stainless push in plug from the hardware store.
  • Remove both L & R seat bolts, Lube up the right one with grease and 1/2 screw back in. Leave the left one out.
  • Cut a small spacer using 9,0mm dia. stainless approximately 5,0mm in length. This will be too long, it's a start point for fine adjusting.
  • Carefully insert the spacer into the left hole, followed by the bolt.
  • Now tighten them up against each other.......done.
  • You may have to downsize the spacer length by a few microns to ensure the seat post pivots freely with minimal side play(end float), and not binding OR shim out the bolts with s.s.washers.
I've posted this tip as another member recently mentioned his left bolt kept on working loose after a few miles. This will remedy that.

That was me who asked for a simple solution. Besides custom making a new bracket ,this seems like the best solution for me. Thank you for your help man!

No worries buddy. Biltwell manufacture a nice bit of kit I thought of adapting. Measurements are pretty close to Bobber's but need to dispense with their welded centre mount and replace with a machined stainless spacer........https://www.biltwellinc.com/collections/parts/products/stainless-steel-seat-hinge-polished

I've been surfing parts and designing a modified floating pan in my head and scrap paper all day. It could use the factory mounted seat plank as the frame & rigid mount. On top of it you could place a hinged universal style mount that would drill into place on the seat bar, the factory seat will then be attached to the hinged bar . On the underside I plan for a Y or T style bracket to be attached to the factory bracket as well for holding the mounts for the springs . Just some flat truss style screws and holes through the bottom of the factory seat pan and then the 2" barrel springs will be holding up the seat on the hinge bracket with some extra cushiony clearance. I'll make sure to get a build up for it when or if it ever happens , wouldn't take too much time and parts would only be about 50$ .

With no frame or swing arm mounting needed ride geometry and ergonomics of the rider would be retained in the place it was designed without stressing or shifting of weight to other areas of the frame.
