Hi all,
I was blessed with clear skies in Townsville on the evening of January 31st for the lunar eclipse. I headed down to The Strand with my camera for the rising moon and then took a series of photos throughout the eclipse. I thought I'd share some of the photos that I captured as the evening progressed.
Did anyone else get to enjoy clear skies?

Thanks Forjox :) Cloud covered was a fairly common story for many places across Australia too; so quite a few were frustrated. In north Queensland we would normally be in the midst of monsoon season in January and February, so it was certainly unseasonal for our skies to be so clear. Loved that I had clear access, but we desperately need the rain too, so hope those monsoons find us soon.

the moon? :nerd:
right here? we would have liked to see her.
but the sky is capricious; we are in winter.0:)
and here at the Swiss / French / German border, we are entitled to this when we go for a walk on the heights.;)

I was one of the unfortunate souls to miss it because I couldn't wake up even with two alarm clocks...Shame because who knows when the next one is going to be.

Trace, what type of camera do you use?
I still have a Nikon D5100 from 2011, but since using my iPhone 6s for just about everything in the last 2 years, my Nikon has become almost unemployed! Have to get back into using her again...:wink2:

In the mid nineties, long before the digital era, I was pretty active using a Leica M6 and three Summicrons...:wink2:

You've certainly got a good eye for creative photography!
Just took a quick look at your web-site; I'm very impressed!! Beautiful colour work.

Cheers!

Hi Mike,
Thanks for those kind words. It's amazing how clever our phones have become at taking pics isn't it? And they are so tiny and make sharing easy. I'm constantly amazed by the images mine can capture, even in reasonably tricky light; so much so, my camera rarely comes on the bike with me anymore.
Mostly I shoot with a Nikon D750. And yes, I live for capturing colour :grin2: Give me filters and a tripod to slow down time and to let me appreciate the night sky and I'm blissfully happy 0:)
(versus rambunctiously happy when twisting a throttle or stomping on the gas :wink2: )
