Hi guys+gals.

Been working on these for a while now.
Went thru several iterations but finally happy with these.
Take no notice of the pads, they're just mockups for testing purposes.
My upholsterer will have 'nice' ones ready in about a week.
Proper images and full details will be up on the website once they're received.

@COC Customs The idea is amazing and I've been looking for this for ages. My biggest recommendation is to make it quick-release. Most people hate this backrest idea because it breaks the lines and looks of the bike. But, it is extremely nice for longer rides. Same idea as a windshield, most people don't use it because it looks awful, but it is super useful to have.. so they made them quick-release, and boom amazing product. Just a thought but if you had a way to release it near the seat base while keeping the structural integrity when it is on, game changer.

Hi Astro,
I'm glad you like them. I agree with you that
to make stuff quick-release, particularly for bikes, would be a god-send.
Put it on to do its job then get it off again.
The number one reason I bought my bobber was that amazing profile
and be damned if I'm going to mess with that!
With that in mind I had to make these backrests seem to disappear underneath
the seat and I'm happy with the outcome. To get it to quick-release is going to
add bulk and complexity that would be hard to hide and quite likely have a
negative impact on rigidity so for the moment, no to quick-release, but, never say no!
I've been testing these since November and I've had them off and on hundreds
of times and for me its 5 minutes to get on and 5 minutes to get off but yes, that
will always put some people off as you say. Can't please all the people all the time.
If I can get quick-release to be neat and strong, I will. (just not now).
Nice chatting AB.
Michael.

Yes, like too....but for myself @ 6 foot 3 would prefer the pad a little lower, not so visually imposing. I often travel with a large heavy bulky back-pack, straining my shoulders. Nice to sort of rest it on the bum pad I think. But anyhow looks good, and as COC says....can't please all the people all the time!

I'm in the middle of fabricating something similar except mine is alot lower the pad touches the seat, it's not so much of a backrest but a plant your ass kind of thing, I have the mini apes on mine and when I get to about 50 or 60 it feels like the wind is going to push right off the seat, I'll make it adjustable so I can use it for more support

Also I'm very curious to see your end result, when do you think that might happen?

Hi mate,
that sounds like are really good idea, just enough to keep you planted in the seat. Fabulous!
Post some pics when its done.
I'm still waiting on my incredibly busy upholsterer to complete the final backpad designs.
When I have them i'll do better quality photos, post them here with options and pricing.
I'll be back.
Cheers.

COC that's a great idea, but would it work for those of us with Rage underseat indicators mounted?

Hi Atom,

As you can see from this shot I've got the bracket hugging the seatpan as close as possible to make it somewhat 'disappear'.

Motorcycle Motor vehicle Automotive lighting Automotive tire Vehicle

The bracket mount is slotted so it will slide rearward, independant of the seat, by 20mm. That's primarily to accomodate different riding positions ie. seat forward or back, short arms long arms, stock bars ape bars, fat girth skinny girth etc.
I don't know whether that will be enough to not interfere with the Rage's but there is room on the bracket to extend that adjusting slot by another 15mm giving a total of 35mm rearward. That should work but it will probably mean the thickness of the back pad will need to be increased to bring it back to a position of support, but all doable.
I will be offering the bracket without the back pad anyway for those that want to 'do their own thing'.
Hope that helps.
Michael.

That looks pretty darn good.
Discreet but sturdy , and almost factory..
Just a thought...the back of it would make a good spot for a brake light indicator..
Maybe the type ya only see when lit..
Now that would be a great option..
And definitely interest me in purchasing 😃

My springer was an experiment. Springer bracket made with hardware from the local store and the springs are from eBay.
Goal accomplished, no holes drilled in the bobber or the seat.
Good luck with you inventions.

Hi Sticks,

Thanks for the kind words. (and coercion!) 😆
Putting lights on the back was something I was considering during
early planning but I eventually dropped the idea.
Peoples tastes in that area are very individual and whatever I supplied
probably wouldn't suit the majority.
So instead I concentrated on making it quick to remove which I think may
suit those who would only use it for a long run/weekend away etc.
As a consequence of that decision, attaching rear lights to it if you intend
to remove it has a built in flaw....no lights!
I'll leave the 'light' option to you clever folk to install.

Cheers mate.
