Modern motorcycle helmets have come a long way since the start of World War I when they were invented. At the beginning of the last century, motorcycles start to become faster and faster resulting in many serious injuries, so the need for protection was obvious. Prototype helmets were made of thick pieces of leather and offered very insignificant protection from impact and abrasion. One of the British neurosurgeons, seeing the surge of rider head injuries came up with a brilliant idea of a hard shell helmet that was meant to prevent penetration in a collision.
