My first bike was a 50cc Motobecane Bleu that I got when I was 14 in France around 1980, but my first geared bike was a Yamaha rs100 that I bought aged 19 (in the UK), so that would be around 1985.
The pictures aren't of the actual bikes I owned though.

My Honda Ruckus scooter, purchased in 2010. It has a bored out swapped motor coming in at 187cc, which is enough to haul my heavy self around town without a worry in the world. I used to ride it to work in downtown Minneapolis, because I could park it on the sidewalk chained to a pole rather than paying a bunch to park on the street or in a ramp. I still have it, but it needs a little TLC. Hoping to get it back on the road in a few years so my daughters will be able to ride it around town when they're in high school.

1975, My younger brother and I inherited a Keystone mini from a neighbor. My Dad spent about a week cleaning out the varnish left in the fuel system. Don't have an actual picture of it, but this one is pretty close, but we didn't have a retractor for the starter rope, just had a drum style with 2 notches cut in one end to hook the rope on to wind it up. starter rope was a piece of cotton rope with a knot in one end and a good stout stick for a handle in the other. If we were lucky it would start on the second or third pull, but if my brother got carried away with the throttle, we could be there for an hour or more.

That was my second bike as well Tom, Only mine was blue, don't remember what year it was, but all the lights and stuff were stripped off when I got it, and I don't think I ever manged to keep a rear fender on it!

So cool.

I'm getting a real desire for a Honda Cub to mod, there's some amazing builds out there and would be fun thing to pop out on.

First bike was a 1976 Kawasaki KZ750B... restored it from absolute shambles, learned a ton, and had a blast riding it around. Unfortunately I let it go for virtually nothing (now that I have a career, $800 seems like nothing for a perfectly functional motorcycle) and I have regretted it ever since. Especially since I bought a terrible bike after it.... The goal is to get it back some day, I know the guy that bought it, but realistically I'll just settle for a '76 Z900 instead ;)

Behold the magnificence that is the Huoniao HN125-8.

I was unable to polish this particular turd but threw some glitter at it and gave it a respray with Full-dip vinyl and changed out the indicators etc. I did my best to add lightness and ditched the luggage rack and bobbed the front fender but 11hp is 11hp. It sufficed for 12 months while I got some road time (off the road during the winter a definitely a fair weather rider) but was replaced with a 125 VanVan for the last few months which was infinitely more reliable and fun. The VanVan is going to be a winter project for me to get some experience with proper maintenance and modification and will be sold next season.

1972 Prospector. Street-legal like a TS, but with a dual range gearbox! Got it used, mint, for $200 when I was 13 or 14 and rode it rain, shine or snow. I used to ride it on the street and would cut through back yards and woods to elude the police. Before a nasty crash taught me to always wear a helmet, I used to ride it in the winter wearing a small stocking cap. The neighbors began calling me "Then came Bronson" which I didn't understand until later.

Lord above, the enormous fun I had on it! Kids these days have no clue what they are missing.

never took any photos of my first bike but found a pic online. not sure the year but probably was either an '81 or '82 yamaha 250 exciter. was the same candy red color too! bought it cash at a motorcycle place (was on consignment) in '96 for 700$ probably if bought directly from owner would have been like 5-600$. was in great shape and a nice first bike to learn on. and true to its name, it did "excite" me!!

I grabbed a pic of my first bike, 1978 Yamaha DT400. I ran it pretty much into the ground. It was used and i owned it in 1988. This thing was HEAVY for a scraggly youth. I dropped it 3 times a day in the mountains of Kentucky.
