When considering how best to spend the last day of my 10 days off from work, I find myself doing exactly what I’ve done for a majority of the last 9 days off... a ride out!

I’m based in Kent, (known as the garden of England) so there are no shortage of stunning roads on my doorstep, but today I needed to see the sea so I headed for Whitstable... in a none direct kind of way... is there another way!

Is there a better means of spending your last day before heading back to the reality of work?!

A few pics... Canterbury, poppies, The Forge @ Whitstable for Fish & Chips, a coffee and my new bird :grin2:

I had a horrible thought that the "bird" might be a seagull (putting together Whitstable and Fish & Chips)… Thank goodness it wasn't

Just a little add on to today’s adventure...

Somehow whilst heading back home from Whitstable I managed to detour in the wrong direction, due south and ended up on another coast in the form of Camber Sands. The roads enroute were great and as a destination it was an ideal spot to take onboard yet more coffee with a view.

That's reminded me I haven't ridden down that way for a few years... My favourite is a ride down to Hythe, then Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway to Dungeness and back, then on to Rye (via Camber) before heading back home... Love the Kent - Sussex marsh roads

Great pics, Mike! I love the idea of taking pics along the way of your ride. My problem is actually taking the time to stop and take pics. I just want to keep on going! I'll have to see about posting some pics from my ride this weekend. Hopefully I can force myself to stop long enough to take some pics of the amazing scenery along the winding country roads. Seeing your pics tugs at my heart a bit. I have some Brits that I became friends with in Iraq, and I've always wanted to plan a family trip to the U.K. to visit. Seeing your pics has inspired me to start saving toward that goal. Ride on!~

Hey buddy,

In all honesty I’m normally exactly the same when it comes to taking pics but on this occasion I just decided to make the effort. For example the pic with the poppies... well I past those at lightning speed on a winding country lane, I only just managed to spot them and initially continued on my journey thinking there will be others, or I can always stop on the way back, but then also thought, what if there isn’t and what if I don’t. Poppies don’t live for long, their my favourite flower plus for Brits they hold a special place for rememberence day... so a couple of miles down the road I convinced myself that I needed to head back :nerd: I’m really glad I did too as I think a Brit bike in front of the most Brit of flowers is a winner of a pic... it’s just a shame it was such a dull and overcast day :grin2:

If/when you get over here be sure to let us all know... I’m sure we can arrange a ride out with us all and no doubt find a spare bike amongst us for you to enjoy :wink2:
