Hello all I hope your enjoying your weather and your ride wherever you might be, awhile back I posted that I was going to fabricate a backrest for my bobber, for us old guys with bad backs and high handlebars that like to cruise well I finally finished it, it's just a mock up to see how I like it I've got some refining to do yet would love to hear your thoughts good or bad

Don't mind the stainless headers they are eventually going to be black

I also fabricated stabilizing bars that go to the panniers and mount to the rack on the back because I didn't like the way the panniers vibrated, and it pretty much got rid of all vibration and flex
I like the low profile much better than other back rests on the market. My only question is whether it helps or not give how low it is. Have you taken it for a longer ride to see if you had less back pain?

It's actually not as low as you would think, but I just mounted it this afternoon and haven't had a chance to get out on the road, getting ready for my Monday tomorrow, but I will definitely let you know how it feels
My honest opinion: Think you might should have picked up the Speedmaster. I like the look of the backrest from the angles I can see it in the pics. And I think it would be very comfortable. I would like to see how it looks from the rear - and see how it look without the rack. To me, one of the biggest differences with the Speedmaster and the Bobber is the cool "floating" seat effect. With your rack and backrest, I cant even really see that anymore - add to it the Speedmaster comes with forward controls, and the rear seat area is under suspension (to mount luggage too), just kinda seems like a better starting point. But I do like it anyway!

To be totally honest the only reason I mounted the rack was to add stabilizing bars to the pannier rails because I didn't like the flex they have and I needed something to mount them to and it worked out great, thankx for your input
Just a thought, it appears you could put that backrest bar on a hinged joint to have tilt adjustability and make the pad adjustable up and down for custom fit. I had a Utopia backrest on my old Rocket III with that adjustability and loved it. It also folded flat against the seat for easy mount and dismount.

This is just the first go around and mock up, eventually I'll put at least a pivot on the pad, I just want to see how it works out first and if I like it or not, thankx for your input, it's greatly appreciated
Not a fan. But if it keeps you riding longer and more often, I say it’s a keeper.
