So as you can probably tell from the fact that I recently created a what gloves you got post... I’m currently stocking up on some new gear ahead of my new Bobber Black arriving.
Today I’ve been researching what boots to go for and think I’ve narrowed it down to a coulple of options but if you guys have any comments or suggestions I’d be glad to hear them...
Took about 6 weeks to break all the way in, and for me, rigid arch supports are a must in this specific model. I wear them working every day as well. I have a 2nd "Indian Motorcycle" pair that I'm going to switch to as I send my first pair back to Red Wing for resoling.
No not as yet and any dealers are miles away so it’ll have to be a case of ordering them online and trying them at home... not ideal but little choice sadly!
I also really like the Alpinestars and love the colour of them... not sure they’ll go too well with my dark brown leather jacket however!
I have the TCX HERO and TCX ACE.
I much prefer the Ace boots as they are far comfier.
The Hero’s are quite “stiff” and feel bulky yet no safer than the Aces. Feel and control with the stiffer Hero’s is again inferior to the Aces.
Maybe the Hero boots need a lot more time to loosen up, but with the Aces sitting right next to them - that’s just not happening.
In my experience, TCX shoes in general don’t have a (very) long lifespan if worn daily for commuting/urban riding/walking, etc. But they are fashionable, comfy, CE rated and for their price i would not expect them to last forever (like a pair of much more expensive Daytona’s, for example).
That’s interesting feedback... I’m honestly torn at the moment but need to get my act together before the bike arrives! I do really like them both but if anything lean towards the Hero’s and the Alpinestars because of the heel/step. I tend to like the way this creates a natural spot to rest on the pegs!
I just realized my Boots are the TCX XBLEND!
I had the Heros on order, but my size was not in stock. So got those instead.
Apologies for the confusion.
(i think i officially have too many boots )
A company called StylMartin also make nice boots.
I have a pair of their CHESTER urban boots and been wearing them for the past 8 months.
My only complaint was the abysmally thin inner sole which i swapped out for comfy gel ones.
Not CE rated, IIRC.
I have the TCX street ace, really comfortable and they look great, one issue though is the lace on one boot has already snapped (after 500miles) so not 100% convinced on the lifespan of these.
I like those TCX Hero boots in black, less so in brown, at least on my screen. Haven't seen them in person. I ride the Rev'it Marshall boots. Very cool looking distressed leather. You might check the audio review on any of the boots you're considering with Revzilla.com as definitely read the customer reviews. Those customer reviews will give some real insight as to any issues, like fit, wear, etc. The Rev'it Marshall boots are definitely not for a wide foot and they seem to be a bit longer so you have to downsize which I did. I also have the Stylmartin Chester riding shoes which are similar to the TCX Ace shoes you're looking at but, I think the Stylmartin got better reviews (in black I think the Chester is, coincidentally also called the Marshall). Stylmartin makes some beautiful leather boots. I've seen them in person, like the Indian and the Rocket. Pricey though.
I've seen those Alpinestars gray boots. They look really good. Never tried them, though. Totally personal choice re: the jacket color.
I'm very satisfied with my TCX Street Ace boots! But to be fair: These are in fact Scooter boots and not the safest boots you can get! They are a not protecting your ankles very well, and the leather is a bit thin, but they are very comfortable to wear and for walking. I decided for them, cause:
- they match my kevlar jeans and my Steve Mc Queen style vintage jacket
- they look like normal high sneakers (so I'm very trendy with them :grin2
- I can wear them on a pope's audience without being conspicuous:grin2:
- they have no hooks for the laces (so they don't scratch my baby)
Generally low (comfortable) boots demand for throusers that are long enough to cover your ankles in riding (sitting) position as well! This can get a bit tricky, cause if the are to long, they will get uncomfortable when you're walking! This is why I decided for a honey with a sewing machine!>
Agreed. The Aces are not going to give Daytona levels of protection.
But, i think that for the Bobber they are great (daily) boot.
My laces are also on the way out, but a new pair from a local hiking shop will prove cheap, stong and more effective than the OEM´s.
I've got a pair of TCX Heros in brown (to match my Helstons leather jacket) and I'm very happy with them, really comfortable both on and off the bike. The only minor criticism is that the insole comes loose every time I take them off but easy just to push back in place so not really an issue.
So after trying on all of the boots of interest, in the end the stand out option is the TCX Hero. They felt instantly comfortable and they look great in my humble opinion.
Did I buy them... NO! I just couldn’t make my **** mind up on which colour to go for based on the jacket I have which is dark brown...see below pic.
On looks alone I’m leaning towards the brown boots but I’m not convinced they will look right with the dark brown jacket. I suspect the black will go a little better with the jacket and will tie in nicely with my black leather gloves.

What do you guys reckon?
First world problem hey fella’s!!! :grin2:
p.s..... I have no idea why one of the pics is upside down. It isn’t on my phone
My wife says that the jacket is a lovely color and the correct color shoes (in her opinion) would be black.
I have to tell you, she is NEVER wrong :grin2:
and I also think that black would be the best color to go for...
I have the TCX Street Ace Air and the TCX Street Ace WP. Both are extremely comfortable. I also have a pair of Rokker Urban Racer boots. I don't think that the TCX boots offer the same level of protection as my Rokker's. However, per Werner's comments, the TCX's are my go to boots because of their comfort and style.
I had considered these previously... but then I see then from another angle and was put off by the stitch/seam around the toe... kind of reminds me of a pork pie! :grin2:
I went in for the Ace but these were recomended to me by the shop owner, who I trust implicetly. I like then because I don't have to keep doing up the laces, just use the zip. They are super comfy and aren't awkward to walk around in like the proper boots I usually wear.
I know they're not as protective as my full sized Sidis so I wouldn't wear them on my dailey commute into London on the street triple. They are kept purely for Bobber riding which is far more laid back
One thing that was pointed out in the shop was that the shift lever is going to wreck them pretty quickly as there is no extra reinforcement in that area. But they gave me a protector strap, which I must admit I don't always use, and yes, it is getting a bit marked up.
Like those Dianese boots. Not as classic as the TCX or Rev'it Marshall but, cool. Looks like a work boot. If the protection (check the Revzilla reviews) is good and they fit, go for it.
I broke my heel in a low speed spill a few years ago when I was wearing some fashionable looking but not very protective motorcycle boots.
I still get problems with the injury so have always worn more protective footwear since the accident. In saying that though, my current boots don't look too frumpy I reckon! - they're Sidi Canyons (see below).
I think your feet will be well protected in the Sidi boots. I also use Sidi on the track & they have done their job perfectly. Bought my second pair last year.
I found these old BMW boots from my early riding days . . . .
They must be 25 years old but they're in perfect condition. The Vibram, oil resistant soles are hardly worn. They zip up the back so they are easy on and off.
Snap! Great boot, albeit too warm for summer and not warm enough for winter (here in Mallorca). But perfect for the in-between months...
