Headers and de-cat

Quick question for you mechanics. I have purchased a Bobber Black and I am having UK spec Vance & Hines mufflers fitted and I wanted to get rid of the cat. The dealer is putting on Vance & Hines headpipes (part No A9600653) with the mufflers, picture attached. Looking at the picture of the headpipes they look as though they will attach to the OEM cat and not bypass it as requested. Any suggestions or ideas before they go ahead and any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Excuse my ignorance, but aren’t your headers already black on the Bobber Black ??
Those are completely OEM headers and won’t bypass the cat.
In order to “bypass” the cat you have to use an xpipe or install other specially fabricated headers that will fit directly to the slip ons you are using. For example, Zard headers will only fit Zard pipes as far as I know.

My thoughts exactly but being new to the Bobber I wanted to ask the question from people who know more about the bike than me before I call the dealer.

Feel free to ask any questions - as lots of knowledgeable people here.
There is absolutely no need to purchase headers that you already own (which hopefully the dealer informed you about!) and when it comes to an xpipe there is lots of choice: FreeSpirits, meercat, Motone, etc.

On my Bobber, I use a FreeSpirits Xpipe.

Sounds like the dealer is trying to stiff you for a second pair of headers. As Eisen has pointed out you need an X pipe to replace the catalytic convertor. There are no V&H header pipes that I am aware of. A9600653 is what you should already have fitted, you dont need a spare set. The V&H pipes are just the mufflers. With that said I am not sure about the legality of fitting an X pipe. It is in essence removing a part of the emissions control, so the dealer may not be able to do this legally. The bike if sold in Europe would no longer meet Euro IV or whatever emissions law they have passed this week. In three years time it will also not legally pass an MOT so they may be reluctant to change it.

There is some confusion about header covers or shields that V&H says should be bought with the pipes . . . but you don't need them.

Got this sorted, the salesman was talking crap. Getting an X-Pipe and the rear muffler now, thanks for the replies.

My 2 cents... I've heard removal of the cat does not really provide much bang for the buck. I bought drag pipes from British Customs ($400-ish) and bought the cat delete ($200-ish), too. I thought price was super low on the drag pipes so worth a shot. Sound was amazing! Even without removing the cat. So i never removed it nor installed cat delete. I suggest you save the money from the de-cat and spend it on something like an air box delete kit. Heck, I can sell you the new Motone cat delete that sitting in my garage that I never put on my bike for a song if you still so desire.
