Guardian Angels, St Christopher's, and other....

Got a story to tell.

I was involved in an accident around 3 weeks ago and given the circumstances I shouldn't be in any kind of condition to be writing this. I was hit by a truck side on. I was in t-shirt, shorts, plimsoles and open face helmet on my BB.

Now stay with me.......

33 years ago when I was 23 my Dad passed away. I was with him and holding his hand when he died and within a minute of his passing I removed the silver St Christopher his Mother had given him on his 21st and have worn it since. On the occasions when the chain has needed replacing I carry it in my pocket.

Take my word for it, I have been in a few scrapes over the past 33 years when I should have come out of things far worse than I have. When the Truck hit me, knocked the bike 30 m and me 40m I thought I would die but got up with only bruises.
I thanked my Dad out loud ( not for the first time).

Again, stay with me. I live in Thailand and the day before the accident I had travelled to Bangkok to buy a Triumph Tiger and ridden it back some 400km.
Because the bike is from another province I have to re-register it in my home province and get a new plate and registration book.
A few days after the accident on the Bobber I went to the transport office to do the Tiger transfer. I presented all the documents and was told to return in 3 days when the Tiger would be inspected and I'd get my new plate and book.
Upon my return the lady in the office checked in the computer and then apologized telling me that Bangkok had not yet removed it from their system. I would have to come back again in 2 days.

she told me that she already had my book and plate ready for me but couldn't enter it on the system whilst still showing as registered in Bangkok. As an apology for the inconvenience she asked if I would like to choose a number plate rather than have the one she had chosen for me. She presented me with a list of available numbers. 2666 caught my eye and I was just about to tell her I'd have that one. As I was about to speak she held out the number plate and book she had ready for me to show that the fault was at the Bangkok end and not hers.

When I saw the number she had chosen for me I nearly cried. It's my Dad's Birthday. 2207. 22nd July.

His birthday is on my Tiger. The St Christopher remains with me however I travel.

Hi Freddy,

That is a truly amazing story, thank you for sharing.

My brief story:
I'm the last of three biking brothers, both Tony and Charles died on theirs. When I bought my Bobber it was a difficult decision but I took the positive approach and said I would ride with them in my thoughts and to honor them, hoping they would be with me on each ride.

I decided to name my bike Charlotte after my brother Charles (the feminine of course). Imagine my shock when after purchasing my Bobber I noted that the first and last numbers of the serial number were Tony's birth year and mine..

Now I'm convinced when I ride we are all together again.

Ride with joy my friend and wonderful memories of your father.

Cheerio,

Roy

Great story, Freddy. I'm glad you walked away from that one, so you could share all of this with us (well, that's not the only reason I'm glad, of course). Now you guys have me wondering what secrets MY vin number and/or license plate might reveal.

Each one matters.
