I've not had that issue myself, though I've only had the bike long enough to fill it up once. The light came on yesterday, after which I rode it another 10 miles or so before filling up. I put just shy of 2 gallons in. They are tiny tanks for sure. I believe there were two bars left on the gauge when the light popped on.

Mine comes on at 70Km's left. I never let it go below 20kms before tanking up and even then I start to sweat when I know I'm not in range of a close gas station.

With a tank this small in capacity you'd living on a prayer when the gauge looks to 'flat-lining'. There aint't much left.

Garage
Well, I definitely donít think having it come on when itís half full is normal. I do recall some threads here where you can find about the fuel gauge issues. Look on the search function. Personally, my experience is that moto rule gauges are notoriously incorrect and youíre lucky if they indicate properly. Mine works ok but, I go by mileage. We all know how many miles it can go and when Iím near 100 (160 km) I start looking for gas. I and others have gone to 130 (some even more) but, I donít like the stress of it. Regardless, thereís clearly something amiss with yours and it should be checked.

These are the numbers (rounded) I keep in my head to remind myself.

Bonneville Fuel Tank
Capacity 9.1 Litres
Range:
@20Km/L = 180 Km max
Fill @ 50Km?
