Hi guys I’m away to order the above turn signals, my question is, how big of a hole do you need to drill into the bars and where is the best location to drill the hole(s) so that it won’t weaken the integrity of the bars?
The wires are very thin so the hole for the wires to come out can be pretty small 1/4” or so. We usually drill the hole in the center of the riser on the bottom of the bar. No need to worry about the integrity of the bars. The hole is small.
hi keeponbobbing
i have the same bike - same problem
about to do surgery - just looking for guidance
on the threaded bung for the oem end cap - did you pull this out
completely - drill it out ?
I read one thread about just drilling the hole larger and inserting the
motogadget m blaze -
assume it is difficult to drill out and keep centered.
On one handlebar, I used too small of a drill bit, and it came out off centered. I bought a 5/8 or 3/4 (I forget without looking) for the other one and it came out perfect.
I later went back and ground out the bad one to match. Just buy yourself a larger drill bit and be patient.
ok thanks for the information and same to RRBuGGz75 - who did a similar install.
will attempt this weekend. Where did you get the rubber insert for the drilled hole in the bar
i cant seem to find anything like this here.
By the way jc3d - i will be in L.A. early October and looking to rent a bobber from a guy
outside Malibu - thru the Rider-Share site. Maybe he is on this site somewhere.
rode up and over the mountains behind Santa Barbara and looped through
those great twisties - to the hills and flatlands - swung back north - great ride
on a 800 bmw.
then malibu - and hills above - followed by angels crest the next day.
that was the best - but had rented a small 883 harley and had to turn back due to gas
level but it was a great day and going back for sure - a non stop roller coaster.
ps.
in the process of drilling out for the bar ends - m blaze -
have one drilled out - more difficult than expected to keep straight.
Right side - main issue i would think ( i have not tightened up the unit yet ) - is that it will
tighten up against the inside of the grip and expect this to affect its operation
given the notch cut out of the handlebar in this location.
did you have any issue with that - ie. can affect the throttle operation - not good.
shep
