Always liked the V-Rod and rode many miles on the original. A friend still has his original although these days he puts his mileage on a Ducati Diavel (which might be considered, in concept at least, Ducati’s updated version of the V-Rod?). It was H-Ds way of breaking the mold and probably one of their best and IMO, best looking, over the years. But, unfortunately, their dealers and the faithful always looked down on the V-Rod as not being a real Harley (different look, better performance and water cooled). If you went to look at one, salesmen often tried to steer you to a more traditional HD. There, in a nutshell, has been Harley’s problem and only now, after losing about 30% of unit sales since their record breaking years around 2007/8 are they seriously trying to do something to stem the tide and appeal to a wider group of riders. Hopefully, it’s not too late. But, their dealers and salespeople need a true head shaking re-education program if they’re to be even moderately successful. They’ve blown opportunities with the V-Rod and Buell and only time will tell if they can reinvent themselves and their motorcycles. Not everyone, and less every year, want a 700 lb., $20k+ motorcycle. Good luck and riding with your new addition. You’ll really enjoy it.
