I think that trip would be fantastic . . . . but I'm in the United States.

I did a trip to Normandy in 2009 with a mate on our two Guzzi Norges. Living in Essex and Suffolk, we rode to Folkestone and took the Tunnel giving us a lovely ride down. The best day was a ride to Arromanche, a walk around the remains of the mulberry harbours, and then the museum which was fantastic... We then rode on to Omaha beach cemetery, which unbeknown to us was prepared for Obama to visit as part of the final celebrations where veterans would be there... It's an understatement to say it was moving... each headstone had a cross or star of David dependent on their religion... Still makes me pause when I recollect...

I was there that day but in my car which made getting around difficult. I had to sweet talk a gendarme to let me use a road that was closed in order to meet our ferry departure. They let us through possibly because we had a D Day vet with us.

I visited the local military cemetery, in Holly, Michigan, a stone's throw from Detroit. My dad is a WWII hero who chased the Japanese out of the Philippines. He is still alive, and we go to our local WWII museum.

Don't want to get this thread off track but my dad was in the Philippines too. Tell your dad thanks for me. (I'm a retired Army Chaplain - 37 years.)

I haven't been to Normandy but I have been to Patton's grave site in the Luxembourg American Cemetery.
